Shore light and short winter days
Long Island's wedding season peaks from May through October, and the light changes a lot across it. In winter a late-afternoon ceremony runs straight into darkness. South Shore venues can pick up a marine haze off the ocean. It softens faces and flattens skies. North Fork vineyards get long, warm light over the rows in early fall, the best portrait light of the year out east.

Allegria Hotel in Long Beach puts the ceremony on the sand and the reception indoors. Westbury Manor has formal gardens in Central Nassau. Out east, The Vineyards at Aquebogue and Jedediah Hawkins Inn in Jamesport give you North Fork vines and a historic inn. Toast has also photographed at Great South Bay Brewery in Bay Shore, Smithtown Landing Country Club and The Refuge in Melville.
The LIE and the Friday exodus
The Long Island Expressway sets the pace of every wedding day. A summer Friday heading east toward the Hamptons can double the drive. Route 27 on the South Fork crawls on summer weekends. If you're getting ready in Garden City and marrying in Southampton, the timeline has to carry that drive. Travel is free anywhere on Long Island. That covers Nassau, Suffolk, the Hamptons and the North Fork alike.
Engagement sessions on Long Island
Jones Beach early in the day gives you empty sand and soft light. Old Westbury Gardens and Planting Fields both have formal grounds; check the park's permit requirements. Port Jefferson village has the harbor and the ferry. Greenport on the North Fork has a working waterfront and a carousel. Book fall sessions early in the season, before the leaves drop.

Six for most Long Island weddings. Four if the ceremony and reception are at one venue. Estates with separate ceremony lawns and ballrooms usually need the full day.

Do you do engagement sessions?

Where should we take wedding photos on Long Island?
It depends on your venue. At estates and vineyards, the grounds give you plenty. Near the water, the last hour before sunset is best. Your photographer will walk your venue's options with you.
