Limestone, cypress and summer heat
San Antonio heat is the trade for its light. Sometimes we use tents or umbrellas for summer portraits. Old limestone walls and cypress trees along the river soften harsh light better than open lawns do. Hill Country venues north of town get more wind and bigger skies.
Where our photographers have worked
Lost Mission and Stoney Creek sit out in the Hill Country. At Stoney Creek the waterfront is the backdrop everyone wants. Park 31 and The Veranda are on our list, and so is the San Antonio Botanical Garden. Magnolia Halle and The Gardens at West Green are two more. Gruene Estate puts you near the old dance hall town of Gruene in New Braunfels.
Fiesta, the River Walk and the loops
Fiesta takes over downtown each spring. If your date lands then, expect closed streets and packed parking around the River Walk. Plan extra time or keep the day north of Loop 410. Loop 1604 and I-10 carry most wedding traffic between Boerne, Helotes and the city. New Braunfels and Schertz sit up I-35, and that stretch jams on Friday afternoons. Converse, Universal City, Spring Branch and Canyon Lake are in our service area. Toast covers travel inside 30 miles of downtown.
Engagement sessions in San Antonio
The missions are the most San Antonio backdrop there is. Mission San José has stone arches and open grounds; check the park's permit requirements. The Pearl has brick, water and a relaxed feel. The King William district has old homes on shady streets. The River Walk works best early, before the tour boats and the crowds.
