North Texas weather
Dallas weather changes its mind. Spring brings the prettiest light of the year and the worst storms, including hail. In summer the heat runs past 100 and the sun sits high into the evening, so portraits wait for the last hour of light. Winter is the opposite. The light goes early, so a late-afternoon ceremony means sunset portraits happen before cocktails. North Texas wind is real too. Veils fly, and we shoot in every kind of weather.
Where we've shot in Dallas
We've photographed Knotting Hill Place and The Emerson, where we plan the day around the freight elevator. McKinney Flour Mill, Magnolia Terrace, The Gardenia Venue and Brighton Abbey are regulars. Couples also book us at The Carlisle Room, Avalon Legacy Ranch, The Cinnamon Barn, The French Farmhouse Venue, Grand Ivory and Stone Crest.
Downtown, the Design District and White Rock Lake
Downtown Dallas is glass and steel. In the late afternoon the towers bounce warm light into the streets below. The Venue at 400 North Ervay puts your portraits a block from that light. The Dallas Design District sits just northwest of downtown. Brick walls, concrete floors and big roll-up doors define Brake & Clutch Warehouse and dec on dragon st. The downtown skyline rises behind the district's warehouse streets. Northeast of downtown, the Dallas Arboretum sits on White Rock Lake. Its gardens change color with every season, and the lake holds soft light at sunrise. Highland Park adds tree-lined streets and big old homes for a quieter portrait stop. Summer heat builds fast on pavement, so keep each stop short.
Highways and timing
The Dallas North Tollway, US-75 and LBJ Freeway are how most wedding days move. A hotel in Uptown and a venue in Frisco can be 40 minutes apart once traffic builds. Toast arrives early for every service. Plano, Frisco, McKinney, Allen, Richardson, Lewisville, Grapevine, Garland, Southlake and Irving are all in our service area. Inside 30 miles of central Dallas there's no travel fee.
Engagement spots
The Dallas Arboretum is a favorite; ask the Arboretum about its photography permit rules first. Klyde Warren Park puts the downtown towers behind you. Deep Ellum has murals on nearly every block. Bishop Arts has brick storefronts and a small-town feel. White Rock Lake is good early, with no crowds. Downtown McKinney's square works for couples in Collin County.
